Overview
Your Base, or mining post, is the most important part of your defense against the VEGA Federation. You will research modules for your base and ships alike to help you in your fight. Base modules like mining platforms and turrets will help you get resources and defend them from enemies. Ship modules like weapons and armor will help augment your fleets to become powerful enough to defeat VEGA!
Base Defense
Your base is essential if you want to advance to better ships, weapons, and technology. It is important to know how to defend your base.
First of all, you want to have a variety, but not every, kind of turret type. Putting just heavy gauss gun or heavy beam laser will put you at a huge risk of defeat. For instance, a base full of Heavy Polaron or Gauss Gun turrets will be at risk to blitzers, whose heavy armor and speed will crush your base. Say you change to all heavy beam lasers. These have an impressive DPS, but their range makes them easily taken out by ships with extra range modifiers like destroyers or battleships. If you look at Liam99's base in the video I have in the battle strategies page, you can see he uses a combination of long range (Plasma Charger) and the short range heavy beam laser.

Research/Upgrading
Researching and Upgrading are vital to becoming the best captain there is. This section is very short, but here are a few tips:
1. Upgrade your Bridge ASAP
2. Upgrade your Labs
3. Unlike what most people think, resource collectors are NOT important unless you are lazy enough to NOT hit cargos...
4. Upgrade defensive platforms as much as possible

Base Attacking
Base attacking is one of the fastest ways to earn resources... or lose them. Different ship builds are essential for hitting and defeating bases. Here are some examples:
Destroyer Class ships: This type of ship has decent armor and weaponry but lacks in speed and health. The 150% range modifier gives them an advantage in sniping bases. They do have a low firing arc of a measly 45 degrees, to balance out the extra range.
Battleship Class ships: This type of ship has moderate armor and speed, but can hold a vast arsenal of weapons. The firing arcs are broadside, like modern battleships, making them useful for rimming, or running in circles around an enemy while firing.
Cruiser Class ships: This type has the best armor out of all ships, moderate speed, and a moderate arsenal. These ships are useful to take down bases with only long range weapons, or to soak enemy fire while allowing other ships to dish out damage. Cruiser ships are very versatile, but heavy beam lasers are a nuisance to them.
Frigate Class ships: Frigates are useful for prepping bases for larger fleets, such as taking out mass driver or gauss gun turrets to let Destroyer Class ships finish the base off. Usually frigates are tossed aside for more powerful ships like Cruisers.

Base Builds
Here I will list some of the tried and tested builds for Bases. If you want to submit a build, go to the forum and read the instructions!
Build by Roastkiwi. I like to arrange a combination of Heavy Beam Lasers (Now called Thermal Lasers I think) along with Plasma turrets and resources in a box around the Bridge, then I trash everything else around it as damage sponges. This strategy works in that blitzers will be deterred by the amount of Thermal lasers and snipers will get picked off by the Plasma turrets. It's always a good idea to squeeze as many turrets and storages on the inner perimeter of your base so as to make the enemy need to come closer to fire on them. This build will get you very far, I have gone from lvl. ~15 to 20+ using this and people still have problems beating it with Exodus Cruisers. Overall this is a very useful build and newbies should try to get it ASAP.
